Underpass connecting Murree Road to Srinagar Highway in Islamabad, constructed by CDA

New Underpass to Connect Srinagar Highway and Murree Road

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has unveiled a plan to build an underpass that will connect Murree Road directly to Srinagar Highway. This project aims to ease the journey for drivers traveling from Murree and nearby areas by offering signal-free access to the highway. Currently, drivers must bypass to Dhokri roundabout, where traffic jams often cause delays.

To address this issue, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa recently visited the proposed site at the Murree Road-Srinagar Highway junction. He gave his team instructions to incorporate the underpass into the Serena Chowk Interchange project after reviewing the concept. The city’s connectedness will be enhanced by this integration.

Work on the project has already begun. Soil testing is underway, while experts work on the design and feasibility studies. Once completed, the new route will offer uninterrupted access from Murree to Srinagar Highway. Officials believe this will provide a lasting solution to ongoing traffic congestion.

Meanwhile, progress on the Serena Interchange project continues. The project includes three underpasses—two on Srinagar Highway and one on Khayaban-i-Suhrawardi. The CDA has completed the Suhrawardi underpass and plans to open it soon. However, the remaining two underpasses will take a few more weeks to finish.

This project demonstrates CDA’s dedication to improving the infrastructure of Islamabad. By improving key routes, the authority seeks to provide smoother and more efficient travel for residents and visitors.
