Anti-Smog Symposium Calls for Action on Sustainable Solutions

ISLAMABAD (November 2024) – In a bid to tackle the growing menace of smog and air pollution, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) held an anti-smog symposium on Monday. The event focused on raising awareness about the environmental and health challenges caused by deteriorating air quality, while promoting practical and sustainable solutions for a cleaner future.

Speaking at the event, Chairman CDA, Muhammad Ali Randhawa, highlighted the importance of working together to combat smog. “Everyone needs to take action since smog doesn’t respect boundaries. The choices we make today will define the quality of life for future generations,” he said. Randhawa also called on communities, organizations, and individuals to contribute toward cleaner air and healthier living environments.

Event Highlights

1) Collective Responsibility for Clean Air:

Prof. Dr. Naeem Taj, the event’s chief organizer, set the tone with a powerful address,          emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in reducing air pollution. “Air pollution during the winter season significantly affects public health. This symposium is not just about awareness but about finding practical steps that individuals, communities, and institutions can adopt to reduce pollution,” he remarked.

2) Community Engagement Through Action:

To foster public involvement, the event included an Anti-Smog Walk through designated areas. Participants, ranging from environmentalists and healthcare professionals to local community members, carried banners promoting clean air and environmental stewardship.

3) Greening for the Future:

The initiative included a planned tree planting drive. Volunteers and attendees planted a variety of trees, symbolizing a collective commitment to increasing green spaces and countering the harmful effects of pollution.
