FBR Announces Extension in Tax Return Deadline

Islamabad: Following the rejection of reports about an extension of the deadline for filing income tax returns for the 2024 tax year, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has reversed course and declared an extension.

The Federal Board of Revenue announces that, considering requests from various trade bodies, the deadline for filing income tax returns for the Tax Year (TY) 2024 for those who must file by September 30, 2024, has been extended to October 14, 2024. This is done in the exercise of the powers granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. The public and Tax Bar Associations, according to a circular from FBR.

FBR dismissed reports earlier in the day that the deadline for filing income tax returns would be extended. To avoid penalties, the agency urged all eligible taxpayers to file their income tax returns on time.
