A briefing on the proposed master plan was given to MPs during a National Assembly session, headed by Shehla Raza. The briefing included the issue of increasing urban problems. MNA Shazia Sobia Soomro requested the review. Speaking in place of Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Information Minister Ataullah Tarar stressed the importance of elected members in the decision-making process by stating that parliamentarians’ involvement in the master plan is necessary.
According to Tarar’s remarks, the federal cabinet was formally presented with the updated master plan on January 22. To figure out the most effective way to incorporate technology and public facilities into Islamabad’s future infrastructure, it is vital to research urban models of progressive nations. To provide a global perspective to the strategy, the cabinet’s decision requires hiring international experts.
In order to get permission to hold a formal tender for hiring of these foreign experts, the CDA has already written to the Interior Ministry. According to officials, the consultancy aims to bring the city’s infrastructure into compliance with international standards while following the concept of “smart cities.” The minister also emphasized that important infrastructure projects, such as an IT Park and a state-of-the-art cancer hospital, are currently underway, showing Islamabad’s recent development.

The CDA’s thorough examination of the master plan comes after the Federal Commission Review of the Master Plan of Islamabad, established as a result of cabinet orders and rulings from the Islamabad High Court in 2018. To accommodate Islamabad’s changing urban demands, the commission, which was established in January 2019, has been charged with reviewing and updating the master plan. Upon completion of the consultants’ study and formalization of their suggestions, the updated master plan will be submitted to the federal government for final approval.
