The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) will lead this project of developing cutting-edge software to transform Rawalpindi’s public transport system into a digital powerhouse. A state-of-the-art control room and an e-tag system will be installed at the Pirwadhai Bus Terminal, marking the first of its kind initiative in Pakistan.

The digital system will collect comprehensive data on vehicles operating within the terminal, including registration numbers, owner information, vehicle conditions, driver credentials, and route details. This real-time data collection will enable authorities to monitor and manage operations efficiently, ensuring road safety and passenger convenience. Drawing inspiration from successful models in cities like Paris, London, and the United States, Pakistan aims to leverage technology to improve its public transport infrastructure. The successful implementation of this project in Rawalpindi could pave the way for expanding the digital system to other cities in Punjab.

Beyond enhancing travel comfort, the digitalization initiative will also contribute to improving vehicle fitness standards. Citizens will benefit from filing online complaints against any public or government transport services, fostering accountability and transparency.

The Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), Rashid Ali, expressed enthusiasm for this innovative project, highlighting the carefully crafted plan to revolutionize public transport in Rawalpindi.
