12 Rabi ul Awal, the third month in the Islamic lunar calendar, is one of the most sacred occasions for Muslims worldwide. The Muslim Ummah rejoices on 12 Rabi ul Awal’s to show their love and respect with their Prophet Muhammad (SAW). In this blog, we will take you to the insight of 12 Rabi ul Awal and how the day is celebrated in Pakistan.
12 Rabi ul Awal History
As the moon ushers in the blessed month of Rabi ul Awal, Muslims worldwide prepare to honor the birth of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) on the 12th day of the month. The day gathers all Muslims together and brings a moment to pause and reflect on the profound impact of the Prophet’s life and teachings.
An Insight into Prophet Muhammad’s Life
Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) life is not only an example for Muslims but for people all over the world can extract true lessons from it. It was not because He (SAW) was Allah’s beloved Prophet, but because of the fact that despite being the noor of this world and hereafter, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) led a very simple life. A life that had its fair share of difficulties but was marked with extraordinary humility and unwavering compassion. He (SAW) was kind towards people, never held a grudge for anyone and maintained a serene manner, never uttered a harsh word against the people who hurt him. Even the time when He (SAW) was subjected to brutal violence on the grounds of Taif, He only asked Allah for the forgiveness of people who imposed pain upon him.
He (SAW) had an absolute faith in God. There were many incidents when He (peace be upon him) found himself in a dark tunnel, yet He (SAW) did not let go of the belief that Allah would take care of the matter, providing Him (peace be upon him) with the best of the best. It has been ages and still, His (peace be upon him) beliefs, morals teachings, and sunnah are written in golden words, guiding people through every walk of life.
One of another remarkable aspects of Prophet Muhammad’s ((peace be upon him) life was his ability to do justice and equality. The people of Arabia back in His (SAW) time had no concept of integrity or fair dealing, neither in legal matters nor in personal life. They were all involved in tribal warfare and blood feuds. This violent and chaotic situation led to widespread suffering and instability. His (peace be upon him) teachings were a beam of light that defended the weak and developed a society based on nothing but fairness and justice. He (peace be upon him) advocated for the rights of people be it women, men, the elderly, or children. Following is one of the excerpts from his last sermon which He delivered on Uranah Valley of Mount Arafat:
‘All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a White has no superiority over a Black nor a Black has any superiority over a White except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly.’
That was His (SAW) teachings and beliefs that changed the Arab land into a modest and scholarly society, laying the foundation for many intellectuals’ academics afterward.
12 Rabi ul Awal Celebrations in Pakistan
It is only because of Prophet Muhammad’s (SAW) love and affection that the day of His (peace be upon him) birth is celebrated with such respect. The devotion has exceeded geographical boundaries. From Indonesia to Morocco, Muslims unite in spiritual reflection. Many engage in acts of charity, embodying the Prophet’s message of kindness and generosity. This day offers children a unique opportunity to connect with their faith as they are enlightened by the journey of the Prophet’s life.
In Pakistan particularly, homes, streets, and mosques are decorated with green flags and lights. Mosques are enlightened with special prayers and sermons, in which religious scholars preach about the life and journey of Prophet Mohammad (SAW). The sermon includes teachings of acceptance, kindness, peace, love, and forgiveness toward every human. Moreover, His (SAW) life is a perfect example that we can follow in all walks of life.
