Rawalpindi Roads Improvement: RDA to Launch Rs140 Million Project to Transform Rawalpindi’s Infrastructure

Rawalpindi, November 2024The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has rolled out a major Rawalpindi Roads improvement project, investing Rs140 million to upgrade and enhance key roadways across the city. The initiative aims to tackle traffic congestion, boost pedestrian safety, and promote sustainable mobility by incorporating designated cycle paths, pedestrian crossings, and removing encroachments across busy areas like Kachehari Chowk, Rashid Minhas Road, Murir Hasan, and the bustling stretch from Murir Chowk to Faizabad. The plan, set to begin after final approval, focuses on creating a pedestrian-friendly environment by installing zebra crossings at major junctions and removing footpath encroachments to ensure walkability. Additionally, the RDA will install barriers to prevent illegal parking on sidewalks and implement honking restrictions near schools and colleges, fostering a safer, quieter environment for students.

Enhanced Safety Features for Cyclists and Pedestrians

A standout feature of this Rawalpindi Roads enhancement project is the development of designated cycle tracks on the far-left side of selected roads. Clearly marked lanes, speed bumps, and reflective signage will improve safety for cyclists and curb vehicular speeds, creating a balanced road-sharing structure. In the underpasses of Moti Mahal and Committee Chowk, RDA plans to improve lighting and impose an eight-foot height limit to manage vehicle flow safely. Furthermore, spike barriers and reflectors will guide traffic, prevent wrong-way driving, and enhance visibility for all road users.

Rawalpindi Roads Improvement Initiative: Metrobus Corridor Revitalisation
